Adam Lewis Might Be The Next Trent Alexander-Arnold

He’s trying to follow in Trent’s footsteps and Neil Critchley thinks he can get there.

One of the things that drew Jürgen Klopp to Liverpool was undoubtedly it’s academy for young players. An academy that produced the likes of Robbie Fowler and Steven Gerrard in the past, and impressive kids like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn. Trent’s development under Klopp hasn’t gone unnoticed and his keen sense of protection for other kids like Woodburn and Rhian Brewster is part of what makes him a great liaison for these kids looking to break into senior football.

Now there might be a new name added to the list, after his impressive displays last year under Steven Gerrard - and he’s an old friend of Trent’s.

Adam Lewis, from the Walton area of Merseyside, grew up playing junior football with Trent for Croxteth County Park FC, before Trent himself went on to become the latest academy wunderkind. Now 18, he sees Trent as an inspirational figure and plans to follow in his footsteps. They’re both incredibly versatile players, able to switch between defense and midfield with ease

While the U23s suffered defeat Sunday at the hands of West Ham, manager Neil Critchley considers Lewis one his best performers, and others are starting to take notice. Lewis was recently called up to the England U20s to face off against Switzerland and the Netherlands during the break. He was also Steven Gerrard’s captain last season during his brief stint with the academy with the U18s and has lots of backing to his name.

“I thought Adam was excellent,” Critchley said following the match on Sunday.

“He provides something different with his quality. From the middle of the pitch he can open up a defence. His energy was very good.

“I don’t think it harms him playing both left-back and midfield at the moment. He’s similar to Trent in that way. He’s capable of playing both and his versatility could be a real plus for him going forward.”

Sure, the afternoon ended in disappointment for our U23s, but it wasn’t without Lewis’s contributions. He provided the assist to Matty Virtue’s equalizer in the second half and was a creative source from the midfield, despite all the bad luck keeping Liverpool from finding a winner.

Adam Lewis, though, may just be the next name to keep an eye on.
