Klopp Talk: “The Players Are Not at Their Top Level Yet”
The manager insists that Liverpool will only get better from here this season.
This isn’t even Liverpool’s final form. The team can get better, play better. Can get back to more of the fast, flowing, attacking football of last season. They can score more and press higher and harder and more effectively.
It’s something fans have been saying in recent weeks, where despite the club’s flawless start to the Premier League season it’s been clear that there’s room for improvement. And Jürgen Klopp is saying the same thing.
“The players are not at their top level yet,” the Liverpool manager told the club’s official website. “That is because we are in the early part of the season. It is normal. Everybody should know we have a lot of work to do still.
“When you win four times it sounds really crazy to say this, but it is still part of the pre-season for a very long time after the summer. From mid-September, we play every three days. So we do the work now.”
Starting after the international break is when the season ramps up and Liverpool will face two games a week almost every week through to the end of the season—or at least they will if they have the season that they want.
Four competitions and two games a week right up through May of 2019. That’s the goal. And when that phase of the season starts, Liverpool will start it top of the Premier League table thanks to four wins.
It’s a good place to be, and it’s a place Manchester City and Tottenham aren’t as they stumbled in games they expected to win, showing the difficulty of those first few weeks when players maybe aren’t fully fit and sharp.
Four games, four wins, and just the one goal against. Liverpool are top of the table with the best goal differential and the best defensive record. It’s a good place to be. And the team will only get better from here.
