Liverpool Loanee Marko Grujić Faces Serious Injury Setback

The midfielder suffered an ankle ligament rupture while playing for Hertha Berlin.

Despite being sent out on loan this year, Marko Grujić has been tabbed for a key role in Liverpool’s midfield at some point in the near future, and signed a new contract this past summer. Unfortunately, the Serbian international now faces a spell on the sidelines after picking up a bad injury while playing for Hertha Berlin, and will have to work hard to get back on track once he returns.

The 22-year-old was on the wrong end of a heavy challenge during Hertha’s 4-2 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, and it was subsequently confirmed that Grujić had suffered an ankle ligament rupture in just his fourth appearance for the Bundesliga side.

“Marko has managed to make a significant difference to our game in the short time he has been with us, which is why the loss for him personally and for us is very, very bitter,” Hertha’s general manager Michael Preetz was quoted as saying. “Now we will look after him and help him, so that he can play that role as soon as possible.”

Grujić is expected to be out of action for six weeks at the least. According to the Echo, Liverpool is not expected to recall the midfielder for assessment.
