‘Manchester City wanted Jordan Henderson’
Manchester City would have snapped-up Jordan Henderson back in 2015 if Liverpool had not offered him improved terms, according to Dominic King of the Mail.
Henderson this week signed a new long-term contract which, according to some reports, will keep him at Anfield for another five years at least.
After putting pen to paper, the skipper hinted at a desire to see out his career at Liverpool, but the Mail report that he was close to leaving three years ago.

City wound up signing the promising Raheem Sterling for £50million but were supposedly keen on a double deal as Henderson neared the final year of his contract.
The Reds were forced to act to tie down the then vice-captain as stalwart Steven Gerrard bid farewell.
The report suggests that City, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, would have at least matched the £20million Liverpool paid Sunderland for Henderson back in 2011.
After missing out on Henderson, City signed Aston Villa’s Fabian Delph for £8million.
Following the summer arrivals of Fabinho and Naby Keita, Henderson’s starting place is far from assured, but he is valued extremely highly by Jurgen Klopp.
