Mido urges Salah to ‘play without stress’

Mohamed Salah does not need to ‘prove anything to anyone’ and should try to shrug off any external pressure, according to compatriot Mido.

Salah ended what was, by his lofty standards, a drought when he found the net for the first time in three games against Southampton on Saturday.

There has been considerable debate over whether the Egyptian will be able to repeat his record-breaking debut season at Anfield.

Mido, capped more than 50 times for Egypt, says it will naturally be more difficult this time around.

“The second season anywhere is always harder,” Mido told MBC Masr. “The English call it the hangover season.

“First of all, the players you faced before now know your style. If you watched Liverpool’s game with Leicester City you will notice that their goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was anticipating Salah’s shots before he actually sent them.”

The former Spurs striker says Salah’s attitude will be crucial as he looks to maintain his breathtaking level.

“He has to lose the pressure he’s carrying,” he warned. “Everyone is adding more and more pressure on him. Football is not easy, you have to be smart to be able to play without any stress.

“He is already a great player and doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone.”
