Watch: Liverpool’s Dominating Midfield Performance Against PSG

Hendo, Milly, and Gini put on a hell of a show midweek.

When the line-ups were announced, one hour before kickoff against Paris Saint-Germain, we heard all the same hand-wringing and moaning from the worst parts of the Liverpool fan base, particularly about the midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Georginio Wijnaldum.

It didn’t matter that it was these three who successfully fired Liverpool into the Champions League final. That, were it not for two of our players being hospitalized with assistance from a certain Real Madrid defender in the final, it very well might have been these three to help lift #6 in Kiev.

So what, exactly, was wrong with Hendo, Milly, and Gini? The first two, English, seemingly pedestrian compared to their foreign counterparts. Milner, in particular, was a free transfer and at 32-years-old, clearly past it. Wijnaldum on the other hand, will never be able to move past being salvaged from a relegated Newcastle side (odd that Andy Robertson does not carry the same stigma). Moreover, these lads just aren’t as exciting as the as-of-yet unproven talents (or at least unproven at Merseyside) of Naby Keita and Fabinho.

Regardless. The match isn’t played out on the Twitterverse, but on the pitch. And on the pitch, these three put in an imperious performance. Milner, in particular, was phenomenal, and has even been shortlisted for UEFA Champions League Player of the Week, alongside some guy named Lionel Messi.

Now, before we kickoff against Southampton, in cup final #6 of 38, take the time to enjoy the last time out as our much-derided midfield trio dominated against one of the top sides in Europe.
