Cardiff Captain Wants Liverpool to Win the Premier League

The captain of Liverpool’s next opponent wants them to win the league—even if he doesn’t want them to win the next game.
Liverpool’s next opponents, Cardiff City, have had a difficult start to life back in the Premier League, having had to wait until their ninth game of the season to record their first victory and sitting level on points with the 18th-placed side in the table.
And while they’ll be desperate to take something away from the game against the Reds on Saturday, Cardiff captain Sean Morrison says that once the game is done it’s Liverpool that he’ll be rooting for in this season’s Premier League title chase.
“I’d love Liverpool to win it,” Morrison told Sky this week. “I would love Liverpool to win it just because for them to get a Premier League would be fantastic for the club and for the city. It’s such a famous club and there’s so much history behind it.”
The difficulty, of course, is Manchester City. Last year’s champions sit top of the table and once again look dominant based on the underlying statistics. Liverpool are running them close—level on points even—but City are favourites for good reason.
The good news, though—both for those hoping for Liverpool to finally break their title drought and those just hoping for a competitive race—is that the Reds haven’t played at their best so far this season and yet are still level on points.
City may be the side that’s played best, but Liverpool can play better than they have and with the season a quarter through both sit on 23 points. Morrison and Cardiff, though, will be hoping they don’t find top form for at least one more week.
“It’s going to take a lot to stop Man City,” he added. “I hope it [at least] goes down to the wire. As a fan of football and a fan of the Premier League, I hope it goes down to the wire and it’s exciting for all the fans involved.”
