Keita hopeful that new injury is “okay”

Naby Keita is hoping that the injury he picked up during international duty for Guinea is “okay” as he returns to Liverpool, according to reports.

The Reds’ No. 8 had to leave the field during Guinea’s Africa Cup of Nations clash with Rwanda on Tuesday with a muscle strain in his thigh.

The Mirror report that Liverpool chartered a private jet to bring Keita back to Merseyside today for an assessment by the club’s medical staff.

Keita suffered a back scare against Napoli in the Champions League but was fit to play against Manchester City just days later.

The 23-year-old revealed to Guinean journalist Sego Diallo that he is hopeful his latest setback isn’t too severe.

Diallo tweeted: “Already on the way to the airport. @NabyDeco does not know if it is serious. He will do an examination as soon as he arrives @LFC. He thinks it’s okay.”

Manager Jurgen Klopp will hope to have Keita back as soon as possible, especially since his teammate Sadio Mane broke his thumb on international duty for Senegal, and Mohamed Salah, James Milner and Virgil van Dijk are all just returning from injury.
