Roberto Firmino on “fantastic” teammate Mohamed Salah

Roberto Firmino has had his say on Mohamed Salah, with the Brazilian striker claiming that his Egyptian teammate is still “appreciated” by the whole Liverpool squad.

Last season, the Reds’ No. 11 smashed records with his goal-scoring prowess, but with just three goals in 11 matches so far in the 2018/19 campaign, Salah has looked short on confidence going forward.

And since picking up an injury in the Champions League final in May, and with Egypt being dumped out of the World Cup in the group stages, Salah has struggled to reach the dizzying heights of last season.

Firmino, however, maintains that the 26-year-old is still a “fantastic” part of Liverpool’s attack.

“Mohamed Salah is a great player,” Firmino told Al Arabiya. “He is a fantastic partner, we discuss a lot of matters ever single day and I am very happy to play next to him.

“Salah is appreciated by the whole team and his excellent work is still going on for us. He is a sensitive lad as well.

“I believe Salah deserves all what has happened for him in his life and what he has so far achieved.”

Liverpool are hopeful that Salah, as well as James Milner and Virgil van Dijk, will be fit for the trip to Huddersfield on Saturday.

Sadio Mane is unlikely to feature after undergoing surgery on his broken thumb, and Naby Keita has been ruled out with a thigh strain.

Xherdan Shaqiri, Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge are all available, however, and will surely play some part in the fixture.
