Klopp and Liverpool Await Updates On Henderson Hamstring Injury

The seasonal flurry of aches and pains among the squad appears to be arriving a little ahead of schedule.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was replaced at halftime by Georginio Wijnaldum during the Reds’ tense 1-0 victory over Huddersfield yesterday. As was quickly made known, it was due to a recurrence of that old friend, the “hamstring issue.” When asked about the severity of the injury and whether Henderson’s removal was precautionary, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp replied “I hope so.”

“It was not that he felt nothing but he didn’t feel a lot,” said Klopp. “He wanted to carry on – that’s a good sign. We decided no. Hopefully it’s nothing.”

The squad’s next competitive fixture is a crucial midweek matchup against visitors Red Star Belgrade/Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League, followed by a weekend clash against Cardiff City over the weekend. As has tended to be the case, midfield depth is something to watch, with Naby Keïta already sidelined and James Milner only recently having recovered from a knock of his own. The potential absences have meant that Fabinho might see some substantial minutes.

As for Henderson, the Reds are likely to know very soon whether their skipper will be out for any meaningful period of time.
