Liverpool begin new contract talks with Joe Gomez

Liverpool have opened new contract talks with defender Joe Gomez after an impressive beginning to the 2018-19 campaign, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds ultimately are set to reward the Englishman with a long-term contract as he has shown promising signs playing alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of Liverpool’s defence this season.

Gomez did sign a new contract with Liverpool in January 2017, but Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with the way Gomez has come on in recent months, which will see the Englishman be offered better terms.

Gomez arrived from Charlton Athletic for an initial fee of £3.5million in the summer of 2015, where he showed immense potential in his early days.

Injury has impacted Gomez’s time on the pitch at Liverpool since, but he is starting to find some continuity in his game.
