Atalanta will be more difficult than Liverpool, says Carlo Ancelotti

Ahead of a potentially season-defining clash against Napoli in the Champions League, Carlo Ancelotti has laughed off the suggestion that his side are worried about facing the Reds at Anfield.

A 2-1 defeat in Paris means that Jurgen Klopp’s side needs to beat Napoli 1-0 or, if they score, by a goal difference of at least two in order to make it to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

After losing to Napoli 1-0, the Merseysiders will be fully aware of the enormity of the task awaiting them in in Liverpool when they travel to face the Reds next month.

While he might just be stoking the media fire, Ancelotti’s insistence that his side face a tougher test when they take on Atalanta this weekend follows in a recent trend of opposition managers denying Anfield’s emotional impact on games.

When asked about the huge clash against Liverpool, the Italian manager responded: “We must go to Anfield with courage and play our game.

“Now let’s think about the Serie A game at Atalanta on Monday, which will be more difficult than Liverpool.”

There is no denying that Napoli is a fantastic side and as they showed in Naples, they are more than capable of taking the game to Liverpool but as we’ve seen countless times in Europe, the Reds are always up to the task of overcoming the odds.
