Rumour Mongering: Journo Plays Down Real Madrid Szoboszlai Interest
Speaking with Anfield Index, journalist David Lynch has poured cold water on the prospect of a Real Madrid pursuit of Dominik Szoboszlai. These rumours were brought on by comments from Hungary head coach Marco Rossi, who said that Szoboszlai’s dream move was Real Madrid about two weeks ago.
Lynch had this to say:
“At the moment, there’s absolutely nothing in it. It’s not like people are saying someone’s going to come for him, I think it’s all spiralled from someone [Hungary manager Marco Rossi] saying he wanted to play for Real Madrid.“
“Well, do Real Madrid want him, do they need him, are they looking for someone of that profile at the moment, what kind of fee would they be asked to pay given he’s got two years left on his contract at the end of the season and Liverpool want to tie him down to another?”
“We’ll see, but I haven’t heard anything about actual interest in him or that he’s going to go anywhere, so it’s not one that I think it’s worth wasting any time worrying about really.”
The word on the street is that Liverpool FC are working on a contract extension for Dom, which would be especially well deserved after the season’s he had. Fingers crossed the announcement comes soon.
