Arne Slot and Liverpool Prepare for Double Wolves Challenge

After two match rounds that saw Liverpool get a full week off between games, it’s back to the grind of two a week for Arne Slot’s Reds as they kick off March with a rare Tuesday night Premier League tie against Wolves—before returning to the exact same venue to face the same opponents Friday in the FA Cup.

After Saturday’s league win over West Ham, it means a rare three games in seven days. And certainly a pair of away days at the Molineux Stadium, with the first in the league and then one in the cup, a mere three days apart isn’t something one would expect to see very often no matter how congested the fixture list.

“It’s not unusual that we play three games in seven days,” Slot insisted when asked about the even faster than usual turnaround going Saturday-Tuesday-Friday. “That’s probably the fourth or fifth time this season that we have to do this. Maybe for the second game it’s a challenge, but also I like that mainly.”

After the upcoming busy week, things stay crowded for Slot’s Reds this month with a return of Champions League action next week and a trip to Istanbul to take on Galatasaray in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie. Then it’s Tottenham on the 15th of March before the second leg of their European tie at Anfield.

“I like it in the Champions League because you don’t play each other that much so [facing Galatasaray is] a bit new and then the second time you can prepare your team even better. But now, being in the Premier League, we played [Wolves] already and they play a lot against teams that we are facing as well.

“You already know each other well so I don’t see that much difference between playing each other twice in three days or if there’s a longer period between. We have to fight really hard in the league to get, in the end, what we want—and that’s to qualify for the Champions League and there’s an FA Cup to play for.”
