Klopp on Anfield’s Power and Liverpool’s Last Chance

The Liverpool manager was bullish over his side’s chances for Champions League advancement after loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Champions League has been a slog for Liverpool this season. Jürgen Klopp’s side have won two and lost three in the group stage. Wednesday’s defeat to Paris Saint-Germain leaves the Reds in third place in the group and needing something special in order to advance to the Round of 16.

Liverpool will host, group leaders, Napoli at Anfield in their last match. The Italian club have performed well throughout the competition, remaining undefeated after five games, and conceding the fewest amount of goals (4) in the group.

Still, Liverpool will believe they can make the magic happen when Napoli come to town. A victory over Carlo Ancelotti’s men will not be enough to secure advancement, Klopp’s team will have to win the match by two goals. Three points would pull Liverpool level with Napoli. The goals are needed in order to tip the tie-breaker Liverpool’s way.

Post-match in Paris, Klopp was disappointed in the loss to PSG but was preaching confidence and calling on the Anfield faithful to bring it all with them in two weeks time.

“Yes, of course,” was Klopp’s affirmation of his team’s advancement opportunities.

“We need Anfield again, we need to create an atmosphere which is pretty special.

“But Napoli is a really strong side and they played well here [in Paris], they played against us really well – OK, we were not that good that night, but they played really good.

“It’s in 13 days, December 11, so we have a few other games before that. We have to make a special night of it, 100 per cent, if we want to go through.

“If we do that and win it then we deserve it, if we don’t then we don’t deserve it, that’s how it is.”

It appears to be no easy task to best Napoli by any amount of goals. But the job to do is set. And Liverpool will need tactics and guile and ability and form and a wild, rocking Anfield in order to get it done.
