Oxlade-Chamberlain reveals the difference between Arsenal and Liverpool fans in light of injury

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has compared the reaction of Liverpool supporters to that of Arsenal fans in light of his serious knee injury which has seen him ruled out for the majority of the season.
Chamberlain sustained the injury inside the first 15 minutes against Roma in the Champions League semi-final last season, and has been in the treatment room or on the sidelines ever since.
The England midfielder was in fine form leading up to the tie, and had been praised by many for his progress since his departure from Arsenal, where his career had become somewhat stagnated.
Despite showing huge promise for the Gunners in a variety of positions, the Ox couldn’t nail down a starting spot for a sustained period of time, and moved onto Liverpool for a fee of £35million in August 2017.
Liverpool’s number 21 has had a history of knee injuries, suffering two Medial Collateral Ligament tears, one Posterior Cruciate Ligament tear, and a further unspecified ligament injury between 2013 and 2016, before suspected damage to all of his knee ligaments – most damagingly his Anterior Cruciate Ligament – with Liverpool in April.
His injury record at Arsenal was often a source of frustration amongst supporters who could see his potential, but worried it was slipping away with his lack of consistent game time.
That hasn’t proved to be a major issue for Liverpool fans, who enjoyed a rejuvenated spell of form from the midfielder, who prospered in his natural central role particularly in the second-half of the season.
After giving an update on his condition, Oxlade-Chamberlain thanked Liverpool fans for the support he’s received and compared it to the feedback he received as an injured Arsenal player.
“I’ve had injuries in the past where it’s been difficult because pressure from fans has been ‘he’s injured again’ or ‘we can’t trust him, he’s always injured’.
“But I’ve got injured here and I’ve had nothing but positive feedback from the fans, which for me I can’t thank them enough and that’s what keeps me going every day to try and reward their patience and support.”
