Referee should have booked Will Hughes for diving, says Andy Robertson
Liverpool left back Andy Robertson has expressed his surprise at referee Jon Moss’ decision not to book Watford midfielder Will Hughes after he went down after a challenge from the Scotsman.
On Saturday, goals from Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino secured the three points for the away side.
The game might have panned out differently had Jon Moss decided to award a penalty to the Hornets after Robertson appeared in real time to foul Will Hughes in the box but the Premier League referee waved away appeals for a spot kick.
While the Liverpool left back is glad he wasn’t penalised, he believes that as Jon Moss didn’t award the penalty, he should have booked Hughes for simulation.

Asked if it was a penalty, the Reds defender said: “No, I’ve watched it back and I still don’t think I made contact with him. I think he was looking for it.
“He went down quite easily and I don’t know why the referee didn’t book him having not given the penalty.
“I’ve seen them given but I’ve not touched him. It would have been very harsh and I think the referee made the right call.
“A lot of players try to buy penalties and sometimes defenders can’t do a lot about it. But I played on and tried to get the ball straightaway because in my eyes it wasn’t a penalty.
“My conscience was clear. The only thing I would say is that he probably should have booked him.”
