Robertson on Champions League: “We never do it the easy way”

Andy Robertson believes Liverpool are still in with a great chance to keep their Champions League hopes alive when they take on Napoli next month.

The Reds slumped to a frustrating defeat against PSG last night in a match that was riddled with fouls and simulation, leaving them on the brink of exiting the competition.

However, if Jurgen Klopp’s side can beat Napoli at Anfield 1-0 or by two clear goals, they can still progress to the knockout stages.

“We know how hard it is going to be against Napoli but we believe,” Robertson told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We believe at Anfield that we can create special nights and we will need our fans and need everyone behind us, and if we can create a special atmosphere then I’m sure the players will react and hopefully we can get the result we deserve.

“We never do it the easy way. The last campaign we were stronger through the group stage but we had to win in the last game and managed it, so it’s the same this time.”

“Decision-making is the word for tonight, of course, because we couldn’t find it,” said Robertson of the match at the Parc de Princes.

“There were two in the second half. I got into a good position and I just didn’t quite find the right ball, and there were a few other situations where we just couldn’t find the final ball.

“We shouldn’t have really let them go two goals in front in the first half. We obviously got back into it with the penalty but we weren’t quite there.

“Second half, I thought it was all us and obviously we had to attack at the end and then they had a few counter-attacks. It was a very frustrating night, there was some stuff we couldn’t control and other stuff we could control, but it was a very disappointing night.”

Liverpool next take on local rivals Everton on Sunday in the first Merseyside Derby of the season, which Robertson is looking forward to.

“That’s the beauty of our league,” said Robertson. “Watford was a tough game on Saturday and now we look forward to the Merseyside derby on Sunday.

“It’s another massive game and we can bounce back straight away. We’ll be looking to do that, we know how big the game is and hopefully we can step up to the occasion.”
