Shaqiri: I Came to Help

The Swiss international is making his mark at Anfield.
Another Premier League win and another excellent performance from summer signing, Xherdan Shaqiri. Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Fulham was more frustrating than it should have been, with the first half peppered with missed chances. Luckily, the Reds were able to find their rhythm with an excellent first-half run and strike from Salah (roughly 15 seconds after a Fulham goal was disallowed for offside), and Shaqiri’s second-half volley sealed their victory. Shaqiri was naturally pleased with the results and his goal.
“Very good cross… nice finish,” Shaqiri told the club’s official website after the game. “[Scoring the goal] is not so important for me. I want to help the team. When it’s with a goal or assist, it’s always good for the team. I came in the summer to help this team go forward and make the process better.”
And he certainly has. The Swiss international now has two goals and three assists from his last six appearances, and has very quickly become an integral part of Klopp’s side. His performance (and appearance) were both welcome after Liverpool’s midweek defeat against Red Star Belgrade.
“It was important to make a good performance as a team after the defeat in the Champions League,” Shaqiri said.
“We’re still unbeaten in the Premier League. It was a good performance, we scored two goals and didn’t concede; we were a little bit lucky, but we didn’t concede. We just have to keep going like this.”
