Shaqiri Shines as Switzerland Beats Belgium

The Liverpool player helped take Switzerland to the Nations League finals next summer.
We’re just a week into the international break, but it’s already felt like a month. Luckily for those of us bored out of our minds, however, the Liverpool players who have answered the call of kin and country have kept us mildly entertained this weekend. Xherdan Shaqiri’s Switzerland met Divock Origi and Simon Mignolet’s Belgium this weekend to determine who would top Group A2 and qualify for next summer’s Nations League final.
Belgium’s Thorgen Hazard netted two early goals, but with two excellent assists from Shaqiri, Switzerland were able to come back to win the game 5-2. Switzerland made the score 2-1 after a penalty, and soon after, Shaqiri was able to head the ball to Seferovic who slotted the second Swiss goal home. Shaqiri’s second assist of the night came from a powerful kick outside the box, and he played a key role in Switzerland’s final goal, as well. A decent outing for him, all in all.
Elsewhere in Nations League final qualifying, Joe Gomez’s England beat Dejan Lovren’s Croatia 2-1 as England won Group A4 and Croatia were relegated. Missing from the England side was Reds captain Jordan Henderson, who will be returning to Melwood with a continued hamstring issue.
This international break will come to an end next week when Liverpool (finally) return to take on Watford.
