Tony Cascarino: Joe Gomez reminds me of Bobby Moore

Tony Cascarino believes Joe Gomez has a similar mentality to that of legendary England captain Bobby Moore.
According to the Daily Star, the former Chelsea striker was impressed with Gomez’s performance for England against Croatia yesterday, in which the Three Lions came from behind to win 2-1, qualifying for the UEFA Nations League finals in the process.
Gomez played the full 90 minutes for his country, and his long throw into the Croatian box ultimately led to Jesse Lingard’s equaliser.

The young Liverpool centre-back was subsequently named Man of the Match, and Cascarino thinks he’ll be a key England player for the next decade.
“Mark my words, Joe Gomez is destined to be England’s first-choice centre-half for the next ten years,” said Cascarino.
“When the national manager comes to pick his defence, the Liverpool man will be the first name down.
“It will be Gomez, then either John Stones or Harry Maguire alongside him.
“For me he is up there with Raphael Varane, of France, as world class.
“Gomez has everything you need in a centre-half and more — pace, strength, heading ability, composure and a long throw, too, to provide set-piece chances.
“He has a mentality that reminds me of Bobby Moore, in that he does the simple things so well.
“He sees the ball and goes and wins it. He spots danger and cuts it out. He sees a pass and plays it. Simple.”
Gomez’s Liverpool have conceded just five goals in 12 games in the Premier League this season as the England international’s partnership at the back with Virgil van Dijk continues to blossom.
