Virgil van Dijk says he’s ready to recommend Matthijs de Ligt to Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk says that if Liverpool were to ask him for his opinion on Matthijs de Ligt, he would readily give it and says the young Dutchman has a bright future.

The former Southampton man moved to Liverpool for what is a world record fee paid for a defender of £75million and since joining the Reds, he has established himself as the best in his position in the Premier League.

His presence at the back has brought a renewed sense of discipline and composure to a backline that has been criticised hugely under Jurgen Klopp in the past.

Matthijs de Ligt, however, is one of the hottest prospects in European football and has been tipped to one day become the best centre back in the world and van Dijk is more than ready for his compatriot to shine.

“He is already very far, especially at that age,” van Dijk told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

“A good defender, good boy, calm, knows what he wants and hopefully he makes the right choice in his next step.”

When asked about the prospect of De Ligt joining him at Liverpool, van Dijk added: “He will be on the list because they have enough scouts at the club.

“If they need my opinion at Liverpool, I’ll give it.”
