Wayne Rooney labels Steven Gerrard as the best player he played with for England

Wayne Rooney has labelled Steven Gerrard as the best player he played with during his time representing England.
Rooney, who was being interviewed by Gary Neville for Sky Sports, was asked who the best player he has played with for England, and the answer surprised a few people.
Having played for both Everton and Manchester United, many expected Rooney to simply not name Gerrard as the best, but that was not the case.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rooney said: “I’d have to say Gerrard. At times, he got us through games and at the period where we lost a lot of players – Stevie pulled us through a lot of games then.”
Perhaps this is the biggest statement yet in the Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard and Gerrard debate?
