Dejan Lovren says Liverpool are treating every game like it’s a final

Dejan Lovren

After beating Newcastle United 4-0 on Boxing Day to go six points clear at the top of the Premier League, Dejan Lovren told reporters that every game between now and the end of the season is like a final.

The Croatian scored an absolute belter in front of the Kop to make it 1-0 after 11 minutes and his sublime finish set the tone for what would be a dominant and balanced performance at Anfield.

Yet, despite Christmas being capped off in the perfect way, Lovren says he and his teammates are not going to get carried away and will treat the remaining 19 Premier League games without complacency.

Lovren said: “There are tough two games now: Arsenal and Man City. We need to keep this momentum.

“We play every game like a fina. It’s what we learned in previous seasons: it doesn’t mean anything if you win and then the next game you don’t do well.

“So, we’ll forget this game and next concentrate on Arsenal. That’s what keeps us going. We have big character in the squad. If you want to be at the top, you need to have the winning mentality and the calmness.”
