Jamie Carragher compares Virgil van Dijk to Tony Adams

Liverpool beat Wolves 2-0 at Molineux on Friday evening, with Virgil van Dijk proving to be a rock at the back once again.

Not only was the Dutchman as defensively reliable as he always is, he managed to get onto the scoresheet by getting onto the end of a Mohamed Salah cross to score his first goal in the Premier League for Liverpool.

After the game, while speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher lauded van Dijk for his ability to make players around him play better than they usually would, comparing him to Tony Adams.

“He makes other people play better around him,” said Carragher. “Tony Adams made the rest of that Arsenal back four better. He does the same.

“He scored a great goal for Holland a few weeks ago. His goal record isn’t great considering his size but the type of goal he got there, how many centre backs would put that over the bar?”

Liverpool’s next game in the Premier League comes against Newcastle United on Boxing Day, another chance for the Reds to maintain their title bid.
