Klopp hails ‘mature’ Liverpool display to beat Wolves 2-0

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool beat Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday evening to stay top of the tree for Christmas, with Manchester City now four points behind the Reds.

Mohamed Salah scored his 11th goal of the season in extremely difficult conditions, with the torrential rain at Molineux making the visitors really work hard at the top end of the pitch.

Klopp called his side’s performance mature as they dug deep to come away with a three huge points away to a side that has made their name this season by toppling sides at the top of the table.

“It was clear that the whole game would be difficult,” Klopp told BBC.

“[It was] very mature, I think. It was such a difficult game to play. Especially with the rain tonight – heavy rain, wow – it made it a bit more complicated.

“The best thing to do to stay in charge of the game is to keep the ball. We did that for the first half an hour and the second half, but the last 15 minutes of the first half was like we had a little break – and then immediately, they fired the ball from half-right to far left and then you have to run like crazy.

“It’s just not a good decision not to stay in charge of the game. But second half, we could do that again.”
