Mohamed Salah refuses Man of the Match award following Bournemouth hat-trick

With four shots and three goals to show from his performance at Bournemouth, Mohamed Salah was naturally named Man of the Match by Sky Sports.

The Egyptian – who has now moved level with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on ten goals in the chase for the Golden Boot – humbly refused to take the award, which was to be handed to him by James Milner.

Milner became only the 13th player to reach the 500 appearances mark when he walked out at the Vitality Stadium, and put on a stellar showing.

The midfield stalwart was deployed in the unfamiliar role of right-back today in the absence of Joe Gomez due to injury, with Trent Alexander-Arnold benched.

Upon being informed he had won Man of the Match for his showing, Salah said: “I will not take it.

“500 games!” He added, pushing the award back towards Milner.

“I have to congratulate him for his amazing career. I hope we’re going to win something together this season, but I will not take it.”
