Henderson: Reds Will Try To Improve Against West Ham
The Liverpool captain is already focused on righting last night’s wrongs against the next opponent.
It wasn’t a vintage night from captain Jordan Henderson, but the same could be said for a lot of the Reds on a difficult and disappointing night when the conditions and referees were actively working to spoil the fun.
And Henderson, for his part, was not helped by the injury and suspension crisis, that forced him to play in an unfamiliar right back position. It was an experiment that not many would like to see repeated, and hopefully Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp can call upon different options in the near future.
While fans and pundits have picked apart every little thing that went wrong last night for Liverpool, Hendo is already looking ahead to right the ship against West Ham.
“We started well which we wanted to, got a good goal, and then we just couldn’t keep the momentum going after that,” Henderson explained to the club’s official website. “We couldn’t find the second goal and obviously then just before half-time, [we’re] disappointed to concede the set-piece.
“So of course it’s disappointing from that side but we still had plenty of time to find the second goal, but just couldn’t manage to get the ball over the line and create enough chances to do that. We know we can play much better and we need to improve in the next game.
“We need to bounce back quickly. We’ve got another few days to recover and then prepare for the West Ham game so we need to be ready because it’s another tough game in the Premier League.”
On one hand, you’d expect nothing less from Henderson. On the other, it is exactly the message the fans and his teammates need to hear.
There are certain aspects, like the weather and clown-shoes officiating—that cannot be helped. But Liverpool should have done more to create better chances, which will surely be a focus in the preparation for West Ham.
