Klopp Expects a Fight From Leicester City

The boss discussed Liverpool’s next opponents at his pre-game press conference.

The importance of Wednesday’s match against Leicester City was just amplified after former Liverpool boss and Red for life, Rafa Benitez led his Newcastle United team to victory over Manchester City. With a win at Anfield, Liverpool would head into February once again seven points ahead of City at the top of the table.

That’s...a pretty big deal. It’s not the title locked down by any means, but it would be a huge boost to regain that extra three point cushion as we get into crunch time.

As the game approaches, Klopp was sure to emphasize that he was prepared for a fight against Leicester City at Anfield in order to earn that cushion.

“They like playing against the top sides. They are not that much a counter-attacking side anymore than they have been in the past, but of course it’s a massive, massive threat,” the boss said.

“We all had these situations, if you play against teams [and] they don’t give you a lot of space or whatever then it’s not too comfortable.

“A lot of teams struggle with that, obviously, to create and these are the games they lost when they conceded counter-attacks or whatever. But we expect a very dangerous opponent, that’s how it is, because they have quality.”

The situation becomes a bit more precarious when you factor in that Liverpool may be without Virgil van Dijk and a senior right-back in the defense. It will be interesting to see how Klopp lines up his team for this game.

All eyes will be on Liverpool to see if they can rise to the challenge and really start to pull away from the pack on Wednesday.
