Former Red Sings Van Dijk’s Praises

Redknapp thinks van Dijk is a shoo-in for player of the year

It’s always nice when everyone is on the same page regarding a player. It’s especially nice when the page is a flattering one. Since van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018, the defensive woes that Liverpool fans had resigned themselves to have disappeared. This season has been a record breaking one for the Reds, with 13 clean sheets so far this season, the most of any team in the Premier League.

No one doubts van Dijk’s role in making that happen, least of all former Red, Jamie Redknapp.

“No one comes close to Virgil van Dijk,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail. “He has transformed Liverpool into a rock-solid team who are favourites to win their first league title for 29 years.”

”His team-mate and reigning player of the year Mo Salah must fancy his chances of defending the crown. Salah has followed up a record-breaking first season at Anfield by topping the scoring charts with 16 goals.”

It’s a tad early to be thinking about any end of the year awards when Liverpool are so focused on both the title race and their Champions League schedule up ahead, but it’s good to know that Liverpool players are already a shoo-in for everything. Hopefully, we’re also a shoo-in for a couple of trophies, too.
