Liam Millar Reveals Sir Kenny’s Continued Involvement With The Club

It’s hard to believe as we’re so entrenched in it right now, but there are other leagues and other teams fighting for their respective titles. Sure, La Liga and Bundesliga both pop into the stratosphere every once in a while but unless you’re actively following them, they can be like strangers outside our Premier League bubble. That can definitely be said of the Scottish Premier League, who are competing in their own fierce competitions. They only came into our orbit recently, with the January loan transfer of 19 year old Liam Millar from the Liverpool Academy to Kilmarnock (after signing a long term contract with us, of course).

Millar made a brief appearance on Friday night in Kilmarnock’s defeat against Hearts but was happy to talk about his time in the Liverpool Academy to the Sunday Post and the Legend that helped him decide where to go on loan.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke from people at Liverpool,” Millar said of the switch.

“Kenny Dalglish was the one who recommended me to him, which is not too bad! Everyone says he gets the best out of you and that’s what Steven Gerrard did with me last season.

“Kenny Dalglish gets involved in our sessions every now and then. He helps us with our finishing and stuff.”

Steve Clarke of course used to be Kenny’s assistant during our King’s time as manager of Liverpool, so his connection to Kilmarnock sounds about right. No better person to get a recommendation from, honestly, but the cherry on top of all that is learning he still takes part in some training sessions with the Liverpool academy - especially helping with what he knows best.

“I’ve trained with the first-team at Liverpool now and again,” Millar added. “The front three is unbelievable, it’s amongst the best in the world and that makes it so hard to break in.

“It’s almost insane thinking you could replace one of the strikers, but there’s always a chance if I can do well for Kilmarnock. Getting first-team football is really important to develop as a young player.”

Thankfully it sounds like Millar is going to have an easier time breaking into the first team at Kilmarnock than here at Liverpool (for the time being) so King Kenny’s advice isn’t going to waste.
