Liverpool Midfielder Reportedly Makes Unexpected Brazil Return

Allan has terminated his loan at Frankfurt and is returning to Brazil, likely signalling the end of his Liverpool career.

Liverpool signed Brazilian midfielder Allan in a £500k deal in the summer of 2015 when the youngster, then playing for Internacional, impressed coaches while facing the club’s youth team in an international friendly tournament.

The hope was that they had unearthed a diamond in the rough, a Brazilian youngster with the skill to develop into a top player but one who hadn’t yet been put on the fast track to superstardom in his own country.

The problem was that, due to work permit rules, developing him to the point he could actually play for Liverpool would be difficult. Four years later, and with Allan now 21, it appears the club may have given up on trying.

Reports out of Brazil today have Allan having had his loan at Frankfurt terminated by mutual consent and with the player having flown back to Brazil to complete a six-month loan deal that will see him join Fluminense.

Given Liverpool had been counting on Allan playing a vital role for a club in a top European league to earn him an English work permit, this is a move that likely ends those hopes and leads to a permanent move back to Brazil.

Since joining the club back in 2015, Allan’s efforts to develop into a player that could earn a work permit have seen him spend time with SJK, Sint-Truiden, Hertha Berlin, Apollon Lumassol, and most recently Eintracht Frankfurt.

It’s been a long, winding, and one imagines difficult road for a player as young as him. Hopefully, if his future isn’t at Liverpool, going home to spend six months at Fluminense will give Allan the chance to find a more permanent home.
