This Week In This Again: Tottenham Fear Liverpool Swoop For Rabiot

Groundhog Day but for transfer links to French midfielders.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

Okay you had chance, so here we go again. The stories connecting Liverpool Football Club to Paris Saint-Germain player Adrien Rabiot just will. Not. Stop.

This time, the minor variation to the theme is that Tottenham Hotspur, who along with Barcelona, had been in the mix for the 23-year-old midfielder, are worried that JĂĽrgen Klopp’s chemically-enhanced smile is going to throw an enormous wrench into their summer spending plans. At least, that’s what the Mirror are now suggesting, with the Reds or Barcelona tipped to swoop for Rabiot in the summer.

Spurs have just about taken a vow of celibacy during the past two transfer windows, so supporters are understandably scrambling for any hints of incoming transfers. Rabiot, who becomes a free agent in the summer, would presumably check several boxes for the London club, including the “right price” box.

The wrinkle, though, is that Rabiot - who previously had seemed all but certain to end up at Barcelona - may prefer a move to a Premier League club other than Tottenham. Liverpool has been tipped as a preferred destination, but the strength of the Reds’ actual interest remains to be seen. It’s not clear what exactly Rabiot would be bringing to Liverpool’s midfield table, and if a move did transpire, it’s likely that the PSG man will have to spend quite a bit of time getting up to speed before even has a chance at regular appearances.

So cheer up Tottenham supporters, you might still be able to get your man this summer. Good luck dealing with his mom.
