Transfer Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Make Huge Bid For Napoli Star
Rumours continue to mount around Liverpool’s interest in Lorenzo Insigne.
The January transfer window came and went with barely a whimper — give or take a Lazar Markovic deadline day move — but all that means is that rumours are heating up for the summer transfer window.
Lorenzo Insigne has long been linked to a move to Anfield. The lifelong Napoli star has been with the club since he was a teenager. Reports in Italy are saying that Liverpool have tabled an impressive £61million bid for the attacker who would be competition for the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Xherdan Shaqiri.
According to the report, this bid was roundly rejected by Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis, who has put a price tag on the player that’s twice as high.
FSG has shown an affinity for getting their transfer business done early in the window, so it would be unsurprising if the ball was already rolling on this possible transfer. It’s another story whether Liverpool are truly interested in a player who will be 28-years-old by the time next season begins.
Klopp and Liverpool have prioritized young players with potential over older and more seasoned players — though they have been known to make exceptions.
It’s safe to say that Lorenzo Insigne is a name we’ll be seeing a lot going into the summer.
