Former Chelsea defender backs Man City for the title

Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot believes Manchester City are still on course to win the Premier League despite the current standings in the table.

Liverpool top the table but City have a game in hand, with Pep Guardiola’s side looking lethal up front again after a jittery few weeks during the winter.

And Melchiot believes the Champions will ultimately pip the Reds to the title at the end of the season.

“I thought Liverpool were going to do it,” said Melchiot. “They had all the capabilities, the distance was so far, I was like ‘this is the team to watch’.

“I like Klopp as a manager, it doesn’t mean I don’t like Pep Guardiola because he plays exceptional football. But I just like the motivation and passion that Klopp shows down the touchline, the reality of the game.

“Then they’ve slipped up so I now have to put my eggs with City. And the way they’ve answered all the questions and the doubts, I think City might sprint away with this title.”
