Heskey on why Liverpool “have the upper hand” against City

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes Liverpool have an advantage over Manchester City in the title race.

The Reds are two points clear at the top of the Premier League going into the international break, although City have a game in hand.

However, Heskey thinks Liverpool’s position is ultimately stronger than City’s right now.

“Psychologically it’s very important,” Heskey said.

“As you saw before, they were always having to chase Manchester City, they were always trying to stay ahead. Now they’ve got the upper hand.

“It’s better to have the points in hand rather than having to go out there and fight for it.

“Manchester City have got to go into the next game knowing that they need to win that game, putting the pressure back on them and seeing how they fare with that pressure.”

Heskey also praised Sadio Mane for his goal-scoring exploits this season.

“It’s a blessing for Liverpool isn’t it, that they have someone of his stature,” Heskey added.

“To have someone of his ability to step up to the plate where Salah has failed to produce is vital. He’s such a dynamic, quick player.

“If you look at the season before, he went through little spells where he was scoring three goals, four goals. But now he seems to be making it more consistent.”
