Pochettino Previews Liverpool: Spurs Haven’t Shown Their Real Quality

Recent form notwithstanding, the Tottenham boss insists his team will be ready to fight.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is shrugging off the fact that Spurs have only managed to extract one point out of the most recent twelve in the Premier League, resulting in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Manchester United breathing down the London club’s neck. Blips against a couple of clubs in the lower half of the table have taken some of the momentum out of Tottenham’s late season push, but their manager insists his squad is still very much a threat, as they visit Anfield to take on Liverpool.

“It’s true, in the last few games we didn’t show our real quality,” noted Pochettino to his club’s website.

“The defeat at Southampton was painful for us and when you don’t have the opportunity to play quickly again and change that feeling it’s difficult,” reflected the manager ruefully. “It’s been three weeks without competition for us and now we have a very difficult game at Anfield.”

“Liverpool have improved a lot in the last year and it’s going to be difficult, they are still unbeaten at Anfield and it will be a massive challenge for us to beat them. I believe, I trust in the team and the players and for sure, we are going to be ready to fight.”

The last time Spurs visited Anfield in the league, an injury time Mohamed Salah gem looked to have secured all three points for the Reds in a roller-coaster finale to the match, but a late controversial penalty from Harry Kane saw the two sides split the points. Jürgen Klopp will be hoping his squad can get the job done early and dispense with the late theatrics, but that hasn’t really been the way this Liverpool side have operated thus far.
