Rumour Mongering: Klopp Eager to Reunited With Former Dortmund Player
Klopp is said to be interested in signing Matthias Ginter this summer.
The most recent of Jurgen Klopp’s former players to be linked with Liverpool Football Club is current Gladbach defender Matthias Ginter. The 25-year-old German was first signed by Klopp to play for him at Dortmund in 2014, and the Metro is reporting that Klopp has him earmarked as a target this summer.
The central defender is seen as a replacement for Dejan Lovren to partner with Virgil van Dijk in the heart of Liverpool’s defense next season. Virtually every season there are rumours about Lovren leaving, but they have never proven true, even when he was on much worse form than he is right now.
The natural partner for van Dijk is already at Liverpool, of course, in the form of the injured Joe Gomez. However, his perpetual injuries are likely seen as a huge hindrance because it means that they can’t put any faith in his long-term fitness.
In 2017, Ginter left Dortmund to ply his trade with the Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, where he’s been a regular in the defense ever since.
