Sadio Mane Hopes To Get Front Three Firing Again
So do we. And soon. Please.
After two scoreless draws away to our two biggest rivals in a week, a few Reds might turn to the front three—who can play anyone off the park on their day—and ask for a bit more.
One player that cannot be accused of playing poorly is Sadio Mane. Despite being shut out of both derbies, the Senegalese striker has 6 goals in his last 8 matches, and is quietly having his best season in Liverpool red of his career.
In an interview with World Soccer Mane recognizes that the front three hasn’t quite been as fluid as last season, but hopes they can find some rhythm as we enter the final quarter of the season.
“We know we maybe didn’t start the season quite as strongly as we were playing last year. We were at an extremely high level, but hopefully it is coming again,” Mane said.
“Mo, Bobby… – it seemed like everyone was signing contracts and they were saying, ‘hey, Sadio when are you going to sign?’ I said to each of them, ‘don’t worry bro, I will sign.’ And what did I do? I signed, so they are pleased now!
“I’m very happy here and I think people are happy with me too. We want to write our names alongside the many great ones in the famous story of this club. Hopefully it’s just the beginning of something special.”
With only 9 matches to go, Mane & Co. better get to the “beginning of something special” soon. Despite being a point behind City, the title race is still wide open, if and only if Liverpool are there to take advantage of a Manchester City slip.
And quality in the final third will be the difference between greatness and yet another also run campaign. Sadio has done his part, and if one (or two!) of the others can start bangin’ ‘em in with any regularity, Liverpool will be truly a fearsome opponent in the run-in.
