Alexander-Arnold Excited About Title Race

The lifelong Red is looking forward to the season run-in.

A title challenge is not a common occurrence for Liverpool fans. It is even less so for the players, simply as a consequence of fandom lasting a lifetime, and football careers being much, much shorter, with stays at individual clubs briefer still.

As a result, only three players currently at the club were involved the last time the Reds battled Manchester City for the Premier League crown; Simon Mignolet, Daniel Sturridge, and Jordan Henderson. While the former two are mere bit part players these days, the captain — who missed three critical games in the run-in last time — is set to be a key contributor as his Reds look to end the club’s three-decade league title drought.

While most players will compete for a number of clubs over the course of their careers, establishing new bonds each time, Trent Alexander-Arnold has always been a Red. When Liverpool last challenged for the title, the fullback was a 15-year old supporter in the stands, starring for the club’s youth teams. Having made the transition into the first team just as the side look to be establishing themselves among the top of Europe’s elite once more, it’s no wonder he’s excited.

“[We’ve got] Five games left now and just a month left,” the 20-year old said on LFC Later. “It’s exciting to think that no-one knows how it’s going to end up and it’s all going to be done in a month’s time. It’s exciting and fun.

”Obviously me and the lads will give everything to try and make it as successful and good a day as possible on the 12th. [It’s] a massive game on the weekend, it’s one that everyone is looking forward to.”

With 77 appearances for the club already, and a crucial cog in Jürgen Klopp’s offense with eight assists on the season, Alexander-Arnold looks set — health permitting — to be on a path to compete with some of Merseysiders’ most prolific performers. And with a title race on his resume this early, hopefully he will be one of the select few who will get to feel the excitement more than once.
