Alisson reveals which Liverpool player convinced him to join the Reds

Alisson Becker has revealed that a conversation with fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino helped make up his mind on a move to Anfield last summer.

The goalkeeper has been a huge success at Liverpool since his £65million transfer from Roma, conceding just 19 goals in 32 Premier League matches.

And the 26-year-old has credited Firmino with persuading him that Anfield was the right destination for him.

“I spoke to Roberto and others before I came here and they told me about the British and that the people are very organised,” Alisson said.

“He told me how things run in the club and that the emphasis is all about football so there were not too many mysteries.

“It’s a very good life with a very good team. For me it was an important step in my career.

“We can describe the club as being like a family with some differences as we don’t fight too much – less than a lot of families do and that’s a good thing!”

On Van Dijk, Alisson added: “It is great playing with him and all my team-mates.

“Van Dijk is a very important player for our team and the way he plays gives consistency for us, defending high balls, corners and set-pieces.

“I have a big protection in front of me in Virgil and Joel (Matip) and the other defenders like Dejan (Lovren) and the full-backs have been very important too.

“Sometimes we take some risks because we are a team that likes to make the build up from behind, starting with the goalkeeper.

“This makes a difference for our team because when you start from the back with good quality, the ball goes to the front players with better quality and puts the strikers in a better position.

“I know I have to work hard every day because I am part of a big club which has big plans and big goals. I need to take this responsibility and take care of it.”
