Former Red defends Luis Suarez goal celebration

Former Red Steve Nichol has defended Luis Suarez after the striker celebrated scoring against his old club last night.

The Uruguayan poked the ball past Alisson to open the scoring after a good cross from Jordi Alba and promptly celebrated in his usual manner.

Nicho, however, doesn’t believe Suarez did anything wrong, and would not begrudge him or Philippe Coutinho further celebrations at Anfield if they find the net there too.

“I would be more upset if they didn’t celebrate,” he said.

“You’re playing for the fans who have travelled to come and see you.

“You’re one of them now, so you’ve got to celebrate for them.

“I would have celebrated.”

Former Chelsea star Craig Burley agreed with Nichol’s assessment.

“I would imagine most players wouldn’t care,” he said.

“Unless you want to become a club ambassador, or become an ambassador.

“I don’t see the issue, you play, you have a rapport, they either care about you or they don’t, and they move on.”
