Klopp explains why he’s proud of his team after Nou Camp performance

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp insisted he was proud of his side in spite of their defeat to Barcelona in last night’s Champions League semi-final first leg at the Nou Camp.

An opening strike from Luis Suarez was followed by a brace from Lionel Messi as the Reds struggled to find the net themselves.

However, the Liverpool manager took positives from the performance, which saw his side dominate the majority of the game away from home.

“What did I say to them after the game? I said that I am really proud of them, that I liked a lot of things about the game,” he said.

“I don’t have to think about the next game against Barcelona yet, we have Newcastle and that will have all of our focus. We will go to the hotel, have a proper sleep, get up in the morning and fly home.

“Whatever happens, these boys, I couldn’t be more proud of them. People who haven’t seen the game will see the result and say strange things about it, but they always strike back in these kind of games.

“How brave they are, I just like it. And in the end it is still 3-0, it will not change. So let’s fly home and play Newcastle.”

He added: “I will use it forever to show the boys what is possible. It was a brave performance, very passionate, very lively.

“In a lot of moments creative, in a lot of moments direct, everyone was on their toes, I liked the game but it doesn’t really help.”
