Guinea Manager Doesn’t Believe Liverpool Medical Staff

National team manager wants his best player to play, film at 11.

Naby Keita getting injured against Barcelona in the Champions League Semi-Final bummed a lot of people out, including yours truly. Naby was having a rough go of it and had finally found himself in a rich vein of form before going down in the first half of the first leg. Guinea manger Paul Put was also on the list of people who were Mad Online about Naby’s injury.

Well, since the beginning Mr. Put has found himself at odds with the Liverpool medical staff’s diagnosis of Keita’s injury. He’s in the news again talking about Naby getting a second opinion ahead of Guinea’s trip to the African Cup of Nations.

“He consulted his doctor in Switzerland as I said at the beginning. He is in treatment with his doctor,” Put said. “It is said that he will maybe in two weeks [be ready] to resume [training] with the group.

“It is even possible that he is in the group for the Champions League final if what I have been told is true.

“We will see. That’s the news that I got.”

Put added that Guinea would, “wait and remain realistic,” and that, “this is not the time to scream or panic. You have to wait and see how it goes.”

Obviously, we don’t want Naby to remain injured and if he truly is receiving a better prognosis, that’s fantastic news. Keita would at least provide a spark off the bench in the final, but for the sake of his long term career, it’s better if he doesn’t play injured.
