Laughing at Rumours: PSG Discussing Milner Move

This is definitely a series of words strung together.

Let’s all remember that this transfer season hasn’t even really begun yet, and that we have so much more of this to look forward to. Let’s really think about that before we sink our teeth into the latest from Le Parisien. The French daily has reported that Paris Saint-Germain, the French Ligue champions, have begun to discuss making a move for Liverpool’s stalwart vice-captain, James Milner.

Per Le Parisien’s report, PSG is looking for someone to strengthen their midfield, something Milner would be an excellent fit for if he were available. This is clearly a non-issue, and we probably shouldn’t even devote paragraphs to this story, except we all deserve a good laugh sometimes. Milner is not leaving Liverpool, and if he were being courted to leave, the story is surely not going to be broken by a French newspaper claiming that his contract is up this summer (it’s up next summer).

Beyond the report not having its basic facts straight, it’s unlikely that Liverpool would allow the 33-year-old to leave the club any time soon. Milner has been an incredible force for the Reds, both in his preferred midfield position and in left-back when it’s been asked of him. Even if Liverpool ends this season with no trophies (I said if), it’s clearly been an excellent one and Milner has been a critical part of that. It’s very, very unlikely that Klopp would be willing to let go of his experience and his versatility any time soon.
