Napoli join race to sign £15million Liverpool defender

Nathaniel Clyne has been revealed as a surprise transfer target for Napoli, according to Goal.

The right-back spent the second half of the season on loan at Bournemouth after dropping down the pecking order at Liverpool, making 15 appearances.

And reports have now emerged linking the 28-year-old with a switch to Serie A this summer.

Napoli have reportedly made contact with Liverpool over a potential deal for the England international, with the player himself keen to move on from Anfield.

The Reds value Clyne at £15million and have also received enquiries from Bournemouth and West Ham over a permanent transfer deal.

Napoli are also monitoring Kieran Tripper of Tottenham, but Clyne is a more attractive proposition given that he’s entering the final year of his Liverpool contract.

The defender joined the Reds from Southampton in 2015, making 103 appearances, only 10 of which have come in the last two seasons as injuries and the emergence of Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold moved him down the ladder under Jurgen Klopp.
