Rumor Mongering: Ajax Star Striker to Leave Club

Supposed Liverpool target Hakim Ziyech looks set to take his 45-goal involvements away from Amsterdam.

This fallow period between the end of the Premier League season and the Champions League Final is a bit of a weird moment. It’s a nice problem to have, don’t get me wrong, but right now what this means is that Liverpool fans are met with the paradox of existing in a moment in which end-of-year stories are floating around while the season is still not quite finished for us.

Which leads us to the inevitable links to transfer rumors with various players, like Ajax’s star striker Hakim Ziyech. The links to Liverpool have been a bit tenuous in general - being that the Moroccan forward is 26 years old, for one, would seem to place him just outside of the typical transfer targets for Liverpool. It would also place him in a bit of a quandary in that he is a player in the prime years of his career and dropped into a fight for a starting place with Klopp favorite, Roberto Firmino.

Still, interest in the strike certainly makes sense when you consider that he registered 21 goals and 24 assists for Ajax this season. And with Ajax confirming today that the the striker will be leaving, all eyes will be looking to see where he lands.

Obviously, the return rate for strikers making the jump from the Eredivise to a bigger league is, to put it mildly, a bit uneven. Liverpool have experience in recent history of how a club might hit the goldmine when taking such a risk via the Luis Suarez Experience, but it still remains a larger risk than many.

All things considered, though, we are still a bit wary of taking this link seriously. The age concerns but also because there are other targets that seem to make a fair bit more sense for Liverpool in a young, do-it-all forward whose name rhymes with Shimo Shwerner.

This ushers in, I guess, the opening of Silly Season. All ahead of Liverpool fans worldwide losing their minds with Madrid looming. Hold on to your butts.
