Rumour Mongering: The Timo Werner Saga Continues

Sure, yep. Let’s do this.

Celebrating an excellent season and then building an even stronger team to challenge City are pretty much guaranteed to be Liverpool’s priorities this summer. Unfortunately, that probably means we’re going to have to deal with a lot more ridiculous rumours this silly season than in past ones. Hopefully one of the rumours that we can settle quickly (and favourably!) is Timo Werner’s constantly impending move from RB Leipzig to Anfield.

If you’ve been keeping up on the Werner story, you should know that the transfer fee is now up to €65m (up considerably from the €40M we were seeing just last month), and that everyone and their grandmother has weighed in on exactly what they believe Werner’s future should look like. Just last week we heard from RB Leipzig CEO, and this weekend, Leipzig boss Rangnick also weighed in:

“Our position is that if he does not renew the contract, he should change clubs,” Rangnick told German station, Sport1. “He has let us know and implied that he will not renew the contract.”

If you’re wondering about where we go from here, Rangnick has offered a cheat sheet:

“He would first have to agree with a club and this club would have to contact RB, which has not happened to my knowledge.”

We all know how good the 23-year-old is and just how much he would add to our squad. Hopefully, Michael Edwards can work whatever magic he has and convince Werner that Liverpool is a better destination for him than Bundesliga winners, Bayern.
