Alberto Moreno Expected to Join Villarreal on Free Transfer

The Liverpool left back will reportedly head home to Spain when his contract expires on July 1st.
Alberto Moreno’s future has been settled, and the 26-year-old left back will be joining Villarreal on a free when his Liverpool contract expires on July 1st after the La Liga side established themselves as the most appealing destination in recent weeks.
That’s the story making the rounds in the Spanish press today, with Marca leading the way, the Madrid daily saying Moreno met with representatives of the club this month when he returned to Spain for his offseason and that the move is now 100% certain.
Moreno will be joining an overhauled Villarreal defence, with Raul Albiol also arriving this summer, as the Yellow Submarine look to recover from a disappointing 2018-19 season that saw them finish 14th and reestablish themselves in the European places.
Previously, it had been reported that Moreno was hopeful of returning to Sevilla, where he’d come up through the academy, but Villarreal will have offered the player a clearer path to starting minutes—a priority after he played just 344 minutes last season.
Moreno joined Liverpool in the summer of 2014 in a £12M deal and, despite some ups and downs, he managed 141 appearances in all competitions for the Reds over the five seasons spent at Anfield.
