Liverpool fans help former Red scoop Player of the Year award

Former Red Lucas Leiva won Lazio’s Player of the Year for the second successive season after potentially receiving a helping hand from Liverpool supporters, according to the Daily Mail.

The 32-year-old left Anfield in 2017 for the Serie A side in a deal worth around £5million after making over 200 appearances for Liverpool over a ten-year period.

He remains a popular figure on Merseyside, where his combative performances and relentless work ethic endeared him to the Anfield faithful.

And it seems his old fans are continuing to back the Brazilian after helping him win Lazio’s Player of the Season award with 94% of the votes, following on from last season’s winning percentage of 71%.

The midfielder, who made 36 appearances last season for the club, beat Francesco Acerbi to the award after the final round of 27,000 votes were cast.

He set up five goals for his teammates last season and racked up 10 yellow cards throughout the campaign, scoring no goals.
